Ham Yard

01: Location

Situated in the heart of theatre land it doesn't get much more central. Minutes from the tube, this gives easy access to Kings Cross and across the city.  It is in fact a great base for exploring the city of London.

02: Room

We stayed in a luxury junior suite on the 4th floor overlooking the leafy courtyard. This is a delightful, spacious, bright room with sitting area and luxurious bathroom, designed in subtle natural hues  of beige and green. Well appointed, there was a full complement of luxury amenities: bathrobes, slippers, docking station, satellite TV, radio, minibar, safe and umbrella. The bathroom was well designed, I particularly liked the double vanity and space to put out make up bag etc, excellent shower and the TV which was perfectly positioned for watching in the bath. The attention to detail stands out, from a decent hairdryer to the beautiful pieces of furniture. Lighting can often be overlooked but I loved the atmosphere it created and all operated by simple switches. Needless to say, the bed proved to be super comfortable. Lovely RikRak amenities by Kit Kemp, I loved the smell of these toiletries. Having received a candle as a welcome gift, I will be able to savour the memories of Ham Yard for some time to come.

03: Food

Served in the restaurant, the breakfast menu is extensive. Our breakfast was included and we opted for the breakfast table (continental) with additional toast. This included a selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt, honey, granola and pastries. One word, delicious. Do note that if you are choosing the breakfast items separately the price would soon add up.

04: Service

Every person we came into contact with was warm, friendly and helpful creating a perfect atmosphere and one which was not easy to leave.

05: Facilities

For me, this is where the hotel really comes into its own. So impressive, there really is something to suit everyone. With Kit Kemp's inimitable style stamped all over it, the colours and fabrics used are stunning, even the lift does not escape with colourful fabric adorning its walls. The bar and restaurant are places you want to be and walking around you stumble from one gorgeous space into another. Beneath the ground floor, the event spaces are incredible. Where else can you wander around a hotel and find a bowling alley, state of the art theatre and giant juicer? With hot pink walls this hotel is good for the soul and could never be accused of being bland or corporate. In fact, I can't imagine anywhere better to hold a private party. Choose the library to relax in or check out the roof terrace where you even find a garden with herbs and vegetables a plenty. The tomatoes and strawberries were certainly looking very healthy and why wouldn't they be, they're Firmdales! I didn't even make it to the spa, just walked past wistfully.

This is a visually stunning luxury hotel with a welcoming atmosphere and not a snooty air in sight. With its central location in the heart of London it provides a good base for exploring the city, although you might not see much of it as it's the kind of place you can settle in for the weekend and not move. A fantastic break from reality. Am I a Firmdale kind of girl? Hell yeah...In fact I could have moved in and never left. Near perfect!
